 T&A Industrial Distributors provides our electric and gas operations and power plant employees with the hand tools they use every day.  They also repair tools and provide safety supplies so that our employees can work safely.  Every year, T&A Industrial processes more than 4,000 purchase orders and 2,600 tool repair orders.  

One problem that we had struggled with for years, was tool repair.  Our employees work from more than 35 locations.  And, when a tool breaks or needs warranty work, the storeroom employees send the tools out for repair.  We did not have a consistent process and we had no tracking of the tools.

T&A Industrial stepped up and partnered with a team of We Energies employees to design and implement a program that includes a comprehensive web-based entry and tracking system for all tool repairs.  The web-based entry system is a Tool Repair Portal that resides on the T&A Industrial web site.  Through this portal, all repairs entered by We Energies can be traced throughout the entire process.  

Tools needing repair are picked up from We Energies locations by T&A Industrial as part of their normal delivery schedule.  

The development of the program has streamlined the tool repair process through the use of electronic communications and has minimized We Energies’ staff time spent in repair-related activities. 

Under this program, T&A Industrial manages repairs for all of our hand tools, hydraulic tools, pneumatic tools, power tools and test equipment.  This innovative program has resulted in substantial cost savings and positively impacted customer satisfaction.

What’s more, the T&A Industrial Hand Tool Repair program reduced our repair costs by 30 percent.  T&A Industrial also arranged for a tool manufacturer to go into all of our service centers.  The manufacturer trained our line crews on how to properly maintain our electronic cutters and presses.  In total, the tool process that was implemented by T&A Industrial has saved us more than $150,000 per year.  The cost savings that we are unable to tabulate is the lost productivity of our operations folks when they don’t have the tools they need to do their job.

T&A Industrial Distributors was named the 2008 American Eagle Value-Added Distributor Award winner. T&A Industrial Distributors was recognized for its Value-Added Reporting program that began in 2001.

The program defines the value-added activities its salespeople perform for customers, and assigns a value to each activity. Since the program began, salespeople have recorded over 2200 Value-Added reports.
